Makkumath is a picturesque village situated at 5250 feet in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Due to its cultural and religious importance, Makkumath attracts many tourists. Each year, Makkumath serves as the winter residence for the idol from Tungnath temple.
The design and construction of the homestay project are deliberately aimed at bridging the divide that has developed in architectural practices over the decades. The project stems from research into traditional building forms, locally available materials, and the skills present in the region. It is a collaboration between the women of the self-help group, the community, and us, creating a space that is rooted in the local context and respectful of traditions while offering the comforts of modern living.
